I've been to see Jintara and Siripon doing their new year concerts (at the same venue) over the last few days: interesting contrasts. Siripon's show is streets ahead: big and shiny, dancers with props and actual choreography, and a string of recorded artists in support. Jin's dancers shuffled about looking awkward, and her warm-up acts were mostly impersonators (a Lanna, a Toy and a Carabao, who was actually pretty good). Siripon's comedians were doing jokes about Jin (I'm not sure if they were complimentary), while Jin's focused on the idea that people in Laos speak funny (a bit cheeky coming from them). Jin played to a small audience gathered round the stage, while Siripon did her impression of gently deflating bagpipes to a seething biblical multitude behind crowd control barriers. No accounting for taste.

Some things in common though: both came on stage so late that people started to drift away during the first song; neither of them can dance; neither is in any danger of surprising you with her program (baw rak and faen ja, anyone?); and neither sings much mor lam these days. :(

Last years Jins new years was great, up country in a wat, but stragley quite a posh affair with few Kon Issan. You are right about Siriporns show I think it's the best, even better than nok noi's. It's a very smooth operation and she has quite a few family memebers in it. Was the fat clown still there? she is married to the weedy male clown, she has some terrific male singers, one sounds just like Got. I told her I thought hers was the best show. They all take the piss out of each others acts, it was job and joy dressed as hags last time.Siriporns dancing routines are lovely with all the flowers and umbrellas.

Jins concerts vary, some being better than others with regard to supporting acts, but the dancers are usually good. She had a great singer from roi et doing honee sri issan songs last time I saw her in Nov. The most exciting act I have seen recently though are job and joy, great songs and dance routines and they look so cute-peter

I didn't notice a huge one, but then I wasn't concentrating too much at that point. The clowns do take up an astonishing amount of Siripon's act.

Incidentally I came across a remarkable website yesterday. It basically distributes ringtones, but it also has a bizarrely extensive collection of Thai song lyrics- 126 for Jin.
