Shit-Spattered Dog
This could cool down your date: Published on April 04, 2005 The operators of Singapore?s new Eski Bar ? the distinctive feature of which is it?s sub-zero temperature ? are hoping to open a branch on Bangkok?s Sukhumvit Road this year. ?Bangkok is seen as one of the group?s two first overseas operations, along with Kuala Lumpur. Both are set to open this year,? said Andy Lim, managing director of the group behind the novelty night spot. Lim said Sukhumvit had been chosen as a lively area frequented by tourists and expatriates. He said the move would inject something new into Bangkok night life and speculated that the sheer novelty of the concept would attract crowds. ?The new Eski Bar Bangkok will run as a franchise. We are talking to a few interested local investors in the garment business,? he added. The first Eski Bar, on Singapore?s Tanjong Pagar Road, has had a great success in its first month. It is a unit of the Octopus Group, which owns 37 pubs and bars in Singapore, where it is the largest night-spot operator. Waiters and waitresses ? called ?Eski Angels? ? wear overcoats and ski caps in the minus-2-degree-Centigrade bar room. Octopus executive director Elaice Ich said that even food and drink prices 20-30 per cent higher than in surrounding establishments had not put people off. The group is to open a second branch on Boat Quay in Singapore?s business district, and a third is on the stocks.
