How daft is this, Charlie Gillet a well know broadcaster on the BBC for world music is putting a CD together. About two years ago I sent him a Jintara CD and he was planning to put her on it his world music CD. You would have thought this would have been a good opportunity to raise her profile in other coutries and that they would have jumped at the chance. Charlie asked farside music to see if I could find out how much it would cost to licence a track for the album. But on asking her manager the proposal was turned down flat-not interested. Grammy on the other hand are interested in this sort of offer but it was jintara or nobody, maybe I should send him some more cd's? TIT-peter

I think master tape have the copyright on all the grammy work. If not surely grammy would keep her work with them in their catalogue. The few grammy CD's and tapes you do see are not often and old stock, whereas stuff she did with grammy has later appeared under the master tape label. Seems to be different with siriporn who moved to grammy from pgm, grammy cannot have the copyright to bo rak si dam or surely they would have re released it, pgm on the other hand who do have never done much with it either but do continue to release the most awful recordings she made with them, recently a double CD which sounds like it was recorded from the next room it sounds so poor, There has been a CD and VCD of JIn recently which she said were 'copies' one was quickly taken off the shelves although it was some early recordings, the other, a 'sexy lady' VCD is still on sale, also very early work. I have seen some interesting TV recordings of Jin one with Pimjai who Jin based her morlam style on, calls Pimjai 'ajarn' she's in her 50's but still records-peter

Last year's re-issues of the first series were on MGA. I haven't seen anything else on their own label, but they manufacture Grammy's CDs for them (Master Tape make their own); that might imply that they have some association with Grammy rather than with MT.

On the back of the reissues, it says something like "copyright holder.licensee for use and manufacture MGA". I don't know whether that full stop is meant to mean "licenced by the copyright holder"or "copyright holder and licensee".

On a side note, both Grammy and MT (and no other companies that I know of) use the same system for numbering their discs: a G prefix, followed by seven digits, two of which indicate the year of release. If those two are associated in some way, it might be worth approaching Grammy in any case: even if MT have the copyright, Grammy might know which buttons to push.

I always thought MGA was the same as grammy, I have some early tapes and they have MGA on them. Are you sure the first series was released again last year? I never saw one on any site like ethaicd who usually have almost everything. I did buy three CD's last month but hard to find and I assumed they were old stock.

Do you know anything about the falang cliff Edge (real name?) who produced her 25th album? He had a website on her for a long time but never developed it. I get the feeling he was quite keen on her. I think he lives in Japan now-peter

Yes, they're on thaimegamart: numbers 6 to 16, I think. They appeared there and in CD Warehouse last autumn.

I wouldn't attach too much importance to what her manager says: this being Thailand, "no" generally means "I don't know, and I've nothing to gain from helping you" rather than "no, it can't be done".

Mr Edge's real name seems to be "Woolley"", which is almost as amusing. ::

Her manager does not seem to know or decide anything, never visited master tape but mean to get round to it. I only know of one other singer they have so it must be a small set up, maybe her own?

I got my CD's at CD warehouse but that was the only place I saw them-not even have in Roi Et. It's worth suggesting they try Grammy.Grammy aeem to have a good reputation as far as treatment of singers goes. One very famous singer told me she was fed up with being cheated by one label after another, especially sure and sony, but she has never been with grammy ::-peter
