elef
Is it all possible for a barowner to get a work permit? I don't think so, so owning a bar seems possible for a non-thai but not managing it?
Guest
Most disturbing as I (and I'm sure many others here) know him personally. I will not discuss this in a public forum, but there are many possible consequences.

No it is not possible for a farang to get a work permit for operating a bar, although there are a couple of 'workarounds' for large operations. Nor is it possible for a farang to own a bar legally, (49%) at most, and the licence must be in a Thai name, who technically must be on premises at all times that the bar is open. Central Scrutinizer
Sad to hear. Was just there a couple months ago with friends. Great bar, great manager, and a nice guy as well. Hope he finds some wiggle room to get out of this mess. Probably turned in because the bar was doing so good with him there. Cent

ALHOLK
there are always some jealousy (farang) guys around the next corner in LOS Very true and how happy we falang must be that no Thai people are jealous of falang making money.
Flashermac
Since apparently EVERY Farang bar manager is working "illegally" ... how can the police justify going after just one and not the others? Also makes you realise just how easy it would be to shut down the nightlife, if the govmt really wanted to. ::
elef
More: Pattaya?s mini bar-crackdown continues, this time a Karaoke Bar in South Pattaya is raided. As part of the mini-crackdown underway by Pattaya Police who are checking as many bars and other late night venues as they can, Police Major Sutum and a team of officers received word of a Karaoke Bar inside Rungland Village in South Pattaya that was open late. Police entered the Nana Karaoke Bar well after the legal closing time of 1am to find patrons inside consuming alcohol and the music still on. The Manager of the bar is Khun Johnny aged 37. He was asked for the bar?s licenses but could only produce licenses which permit the sale of alcohol; however the more important license which permits the business to trade was not present. Khun Johnny claimed that the paperwork was in the system but the license had not yet been issued. Police arrested him on a charge of operating a venue without the correct documentation and a report has been sent to the Governor of Chonburi who may decide to close the venue on a temporary or permanent basis. Pattaya City News And more: Walking Street Beer Bars closed by Pattaya?s Chief of Police in Late night raid. It is widely known here in Pattaya that after the go-go bars and disco?s close Beer Bar?s normally remain open, sometimes all night, should you wish to continue your evening drinking and enjoying the nightlife of Pattaya. Although these beer bars and strictly breaking the law, this practice has been tolerated by Police until now. Police Colonel Somnook, Pattaya?s Police Chief was on patrol along Walking Street at 4am when he noticed beer bars still serving alcohol. He decided to stop them serving and arrested the offending bar managers. We understand that three bars along the street received particular attention and the managers of each were taken back to Pattaya Police Station along with one foreign man charged with public order offences after he had said a little too much to one of the officers. It is unclear if this is a new policy of Pattaya Police to ensure that Beer Bars close at the same time as other venues or whether this was a one off and raids such as these will not happen again. Neo
Hmm, and some speculated the Pattaya closing time crackdown was just a temporary thing to put up with that was going to blow over quickly. On the contrary, the future of closings appears to be even tighter than the present situation.
