Guest
For any of you who do not keep an eye on SCT forum. You many not have heard that another fellow has prepared some study software and is available for free download at the SCT downloads page. http://getit.at/sct It's near the bottom of the page and titled "Thai Flashcards" I have only glanced over it judge for yourself. If any of you are new to this board you may have missed earlier postings about the free download of the revered book "Fundamentals of Thai Language" its available at http://www.geocities.com/funthai/
Lamock Chokaprret
Help. I went to http://www.geocities.com/funthai/ and downloaded the package but can't seem to get the fonts working in Windows Me. Do I need to reboot or something?
Lamock Chokaprret
to db: Thanks for the advice but I tried all these things. The fonts are in the fonts folder. The strange thing is, when I bring up control panel/fonts/file there is no "install new fonts" option on the menu! And the windows me help even says this is how you do it, both on the help installed on my system and on the ms web site. The help also says TT fonts can be just copied into the folder and that's it. This morning I double checked everything, for instance that the fonts had been extracted from the archive but still the same problem. I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with the version of Me installed on my laptop.
Lamock Chokaprret
Final update. I installed the Thai Flashcards program also noted in this thread. It tried to install the same fonts used in the Thai Language book but older versions. I told it to keep my current versions. Viola! Once Thai flashcards was installed the other program now displayed the fonts correctly. So there must have been some kind of system command executed by the install that activated the new fonts in my fonts folder. Very bizarre behavior but then again, this is Microsoft we are talking about.
sidsanuk
The best free site I have found for Thai study is: http://www.seasite.niu.edu/Thai/ Great site. Full lesson plans for reading, speaking. Even sound files for all the letters and tones. Sid
