Then it would be from Skt. "shobha" (noun). But of course, this is related to the adjective "shubha", anyway (and which among other things means "beautiful").

But doesn't "shobha" turn into "sopa"??

The shift from u to o or the other way round can be quite irritating. In my early days in Thailand I used to pronounce the Thai word for "old(-fashioned)" as "buraan"; of course it should be "boraan", but I was used to Skt./Hindi "purana" (old)and in the process I really sounded old-fashioned to Thai ears - like straight out of Ramkhamhaeng's time!
