chuckwoww
This shouldn't bother anybody here. Internet crackdown a la Thaksin: More than five million websites to be Blocked "Inappropriate material" BANGKOK: -- The government will launch a crackdown on pornographic material, offensive cartoons and Internet websites that contain inappropriate material, the government spokesman said yesterday. Surapong Suebwonglee said more than five million websites from around the world feature rape in their content, causing widespread alarm among relevant authorities. ?There are also games about rape,? he said after he raised his concerns at the Cabinet meeting yesterday. He said Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is now planning to supervise the crackdown on pornography and has already demanded to see clear results from relevant authorities by December. Surapong said the crackdown would target pornographic material, cartoons and websites. He believed technological systems must be in place to block pornographic websites operated overseas, while relevant officials would nail down and arrest operators of the offending sites in Thailand. ?With sincere effort from all relevant parties, the severity of the problem should dramatically drop,? he said. --The Nation 2005-10-
Encore
Who wants to waste time on a websearch, when it is for sale on Sukhumvit and other places.
Flashermac
5 million rape sites? How come I've never run across that stuff? (Probably 90% must be in Japan!) Does the Thai govmt hire someone to sit around and search for internet porn all day? Wonder if the job is restricted to Thais only. I might consider a career change. If they were really serious, they would go out and arrest Nigel and Monkey Man, who are quite easy to find. This is obviously more sound and fury to distract the proles. Wonder what they are trying to take attention away from this time. p.s. Loxinfo, owned by Thaksin, already DOES ban most porn sites. Maybe Loxinfo is losing business to the ISPs that allow it in??? ALHOLK
Hi! I was in Chinatown a few days ago. And surprise, surprise, surprise ... the street vendors are selling Chinese porn videos. I hope you reported it to the local police as porn is very clearly against the law. regards ALHOLK

That's such a vague, subjective description. Inappropriate could mean views critical to Thai government and society, or discussions of Thai prostitution and STDs, etc. Hell, I live in the US, and those family/religious groups that monitor TV for "inappropriate material" go apeshit if a tit falls out on national TV and complain about violence in video games, but are just fine with endless violence on TV in children's shows and primetime. Just goes to show you how fucked up priorities are in the US. IMHO, I think if we had more tits and less violence in all forms of media, we'd be better off! Oddly enough, the policeman who was standing on the corner next to the vendors didn't seem to notice. Maybe he couldn't read Chinese?
