vox1 Posted December 15, 2005 Report Share Posted December 15, 2005 keep in mind also that that hyper polite "krrra pom" style of thai spoken today, right down to particles we assume to be basic parts of thai like "kha" and "krap" is totally artificial and has its basis in NO natural spoken thai dialect. this way of speaking was invented in the 1930s by the thai government as part of the effort to disseminate the fiction of "the thai citizen" and brainwash everyone in the "kingdom". it was incredibly effective. but the way thai people speak in the public sector today is totally artificial and has only existed for about 70 years. thailand, always proud of itself for "never having been colonized," is the largest colony in southeast asia, a totally artificial nation made up by forcibly subsuming peoples of many different cultural traditions and languages, such as southern malays, northern laan na, northeastern lao, and the oldest inhabitants of all of this region, the mons and khmers. vox Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
