The Kuwaitis did eventually buy BP's (and Gulf Oil's) 40% holdings through KOC and KNPC. Part of the deal was that they maintain a massive current account at the Bank of England. KPC currently owns less than 10% of BP I think.

 

BP of course has never forgiven the Iraqis for nationalizing their fields. They saw deposing Saddam as a good chance for making deals with any new Iraqi government....lately they don't seem so enthusiastic.

 

Have you any idea what bombing Iran back to the stone age would do to the price of oil? How Russia and China would react? What Kurdish control of Kirkuk would do to Turkey? Are you sure Iran doesn't already have nuclear weapons?

 

Too many unpredictable consequences. It all looks like fun from the safety of a think tank but this Great Game stuff has a nasty way of getting out of control. Unless of course you want to bring on WW3 which seems to be the plan in some quarters.
