Does Thailand recognize the concept of a common-law wife? If so, what might the specifics of that be?

Common-law marriage for farangs to Thai girls are not legal or binding in Thailand. To make it legal, you must registered the marriage at the city hall.

Most bargirls for an example, gets married to their Thai husband without paperwork of any kind. Some lucky ones can afford to get a Buddha blessing and/or ceremony but still without registration which costs few hundred baht they can't afford or want to spend it on.

Some Thai men get the blessing of her parents with money or other bargaining goods for marriage, then if he takes her to his residence, this is marriage.

Marriage without documentation is common in Thailand, especially from Issan. Divorce without alimony, child support or legal process is also very common for the "low class" Thais, thus almost all the bargirls.

Vast majority of all marriages involving Thais and Farangs are between bargirls and "sex tourists/sexpats."
