Guest Posted July 22, 2001 Report Share Posted July 22, 2001 There have been a few queries on the main Jakarta thread about hotels, so I thought I'd mention the Jayakarta Tower. It's on Hayam Wuruk north of the Manga Bessar intersection.......yes this is the heart of the Chinatown riot zone and the area can be a little tense to walk around in......take a cab at night. It's also very far from Blok M, but obviously convenient for chinatown sanuking and not too bad for getting to JJ/Tanamour. THe main thing the hotel has going for it is the price.......1 year ago I was getting their standard room for 250,000 rupiah. This is about half the price of Ahambra for example, and while the Jayakarta building is older, inside the rooms are bigger and nicer. Clientele seems mainly Chinese, not too many bule(farang) stay there. Had no problems bringing in a girl, other than a friendly warning from the desk staff on the first night to put my valuables in the safety deposit box. Hope this is useful for somebody.
