Ozgaz
Hello all Anyone with up to date KL information? Please don't suggest the Sammyboy forum (if it's still around) because I can't cope with all that Singlish and all the lads getting stiffies because they saw a flash of undies on the bus three weeks ago). First hand info would be welcome. cheers Ozgaz
JCK
I think KL gets such an unfair slagging off by all BKK expats - I love it! I lived there for ages...and am going back tomorrow for new year. The coolest place in town has to be Bangsar, a kind of village crammed with bars, restaurants and clubs - no tourists at all. You can walk around and see for yourself in about 10 minutes. I recommend relaxing in the old git bars - Ronny Q, Finnegans or House Frankfurt - before hitting the rowdier places. The bars are all on Jalan Telawi off Jalan Maarof - get a taxi to McDonalds Jalan Maarof. Don’t use the LRT because Bangsar station is miles away. But things are changing in KL. Bukit Bintang, or the Golden Triangle has changed a lot with a few new HUGE clubs (“SI” I think the big one is called). This is quite near the Shangri-la hotel (watch out for those katoeys). I will stick my neck out to say I think the KL women have to be seen to be believed – babes, perfect English (well Manglish) too! Better than BKK! I was there for a long time and had a gorgeous Malay-Chinese girlfriend so if you want to know about "working girls" umm sorry can't help. Umm there is an escort agency (Mikado?) on Jalan Sultan Ismail but I haven’t a clue what it offers. Selemat datang ke KL
Fatbastard
JCK, There are some aspects of KL that appeal but I lived there for 3 years (8 Years ago) and couldn't get out fast enough. Sure, it has a developing nightlife scene but for me anyway its sort of Superficial. Doesn't have much of the real down and dirty raunchy feel of Thailand. Most Malaysians will agree, just see them pack on the "shaggers express" going from KL to Haad Yai on fridays nights. Good food tho', in fact I think better than Thailand. But each to his own and my best mate lives there and loves it.
JCK
lol FB - fair point. Hatyai is a bloody awful place and if Malaysians choose to go there for fun then they must think their own country is truly crap. KL has changed a lot. I lived there in 1998 and for a few months in 2001. I still stand by my comments. You need a cushy job and money to have fun living in KL though (that's why I ain't there now!). JCK
Jeez - the prices! If you live in BKK, you will be taken aback with how expensive KL is in comparison. I was there at new year and spent a fortune! I couldn't resist a pint of Tetley Bitter in the very popular yet extremely crap Hard Rock Cafe but it sure wasn't worth RM29 (about 330 Baht)! I should say beers are normally about RM10 in bars you actually want to go in to. I would say that most things cost about 50% more than in BKK. That is apart from the LRT (Sytrain) which is far cheaper than BKK - don't know why. The club which I forgot the name of before is called "Twelve SI" on Jalan Sultan Ismail. Guest
With an hour or so to kill before my train from KL Sentral I went for a wander around the area Brickfields which is more or less opposite the station. I was delighted when I chanced upon what looked like a pair of rather seedy whorehouses. This was early afternoon and there were a couple of bored ladies hanging around outside, along with a portly Indian drumming up trade. What with the heat and my advancing years, I opted for a few beers and a curry in the excellent restaurant opposite.... I expect I will take another look next time I'm there. Anyone else have info on this aspect of KL's seamy underbelly ???
