The plane was supposed to land at Khon Kaen at 7:40 am but the pilot decided to fly back and land at the Bangkok airport to solve the problem on the hydraulic system of the whell first, said Winij Jinathongthai, director of the Khon Kaen International Airport. The plane then returned to land Khon Kaen at 9:20 am, he said. He said the pilot made a right decision to return to Bangkok to fix the hydraulic system before returning to Khon Kaen because the Khon Kaen did not have enough equipment to fix the problem. Mentors Posted July 3, 2006 Author Report Share Posted July 3, 2006 about that from the Bangkok Post: Thai Airways International said today that a flight to Khon Kaen had to return for an emergency landing at Bangkok airport the morning because of a problem with the landing gear. New THAI President Flying Officer Apinan Sumanaseni said the pilot of Flight TG040 discovered the gear would not stow properly after he took off for the Northeast from Don Muang airport this morning at 6:45, and decided to return to the airport. Passengers were transferred to another plane, which took off after a delay of 90 minutes, the airline said. An official investigation into the landing gear failure is continuing. Official Thai News Agency claimed to have a source who told them the problem "might be caused by the fact that the plane is rather old," :: which would indicate poor maintenance if it were true.
