MaiLuk
Fri Jul 28, 10:12 AM ET LONDON (Reuters) - A British woman has been ordered by police to take down a sign on her garden gate which read "Our dogs are fed on Jehovah's Witnesses." Janet Grove, who owns a terrier puppy called Rabbit, insisted the sign was a gentle joke to discourage callers at her front door. Her late husband put the sign up more than 30 years ago when members of the church called at their house on Christmas Day. But police were forced to act after receiving a complaint. "We were informed by a member of the public who found the sign to be distressing, offensive and inappropriate," a police spokesman said. "Officers attended the address and the sign was voluntarily taken down." Link
sayjann
this is an ongoing story. 1 complaint in 30 Years and she gets a visit from the Police........what a joke. espiecally as the sign is deemed to be humourous, nothing malicious. but if a muslim preacher was to put up a sign outside his mosque saying 'fuck off christians' then nothing would be done about it. but good to see the old Gal sticking to her guns. everytime the Police turn up she complies with their request to take it down and after they have gone she puts it back up....... no doubt she will eventually be arrested and jailed for inciting religious hatred..... elef
It was in swedish newspapers 2-3 days ago. According to what we were told police just had been there once and she had put it back after they left. Also that JWs saw it as a joke and didn't have any complaints. Flashermac
JWs are complete pacifists and harmless people. I doubt if it was one of their number that complained. If you are not interested in their message, simply say so and they will go away. You can also request them not to visit again. My father always felt sorry for them and would talk to them a few minutes, since they believe they are earning their way into heaven this way. Finchy
Some person with a sense of humour bypass makes a complaint and the police have to act. A few years ago the bobby would have told the complainant to get a sense of humour and stop wasting his/her time. End of matter. Now they have to do something, or face disciplinary action and the complainant would sue. Nowadays the bobby on the beat doesn't dare use any discretion, which is why you get stupid stories like this.
