Psychologists and politicians yesterday debated whether the caretaker prime minister is "mentally unstable or simply cunning". Dr Kasem Tantiplacheewa of Somdej Chao Phraya Hospital argued that Thaksin was mentally unstable and that it was not just personal - but a national problem. Kasem said the media had analysed Thaksin's personality and also believed the PM had lost his mind and has a multiple personality disorder (MPD). "A person with MPD cannot remember himself. The country's leader does not realise what he is doing. He is swayed to do things like riding an elephant - and wearing a black wristband. A person with this symptom needs to hear the cheers of supporters to get his confidence up," he said. Caretaker Senator Dr Nirun Phitakwatchara said he did not believe Thaksin was mentally unsound as he would be unable to handle the responsibility of national problems - but he did believe Thaksin was crafty and had abused his power. "The caretaker prime minister is violating the law and abuses his power. Thai society is learning how a smart country leader can cheat," he said. The debate was organised at Chulalongkorn University. It also discussed a Thai-language book entitled "They allow sick people to run the country", that focused on national leaders who were mentally unstable. Guest Posted August 24, 2006 Report Share Posted August 24, 2006 Oh jeez...really...what a waste of time...sounds like the psychologist present at this debacle knew very little...total ignorance and/or stupidity on his part...throw up a label of an unrelated and inappropriately diagnosed 'mental illness'....for what? To me he just ends up looking like a total jerk.... As an ex-shrink, people like this who abuse their 'expert' status should be publically shamed, exposed and demeaned...altho' in my eyes he's done that already...it's a shame others might believe him, who don't know mental health diagnosis and it's 'interesting' array of labels...... Personality wise, Mr T is a really unpleasant character, but i guess that's also obvious...sociopathic? psychopathic? Utterly self interested and self obsessed for sure, not interested in others feelings...high IQ (an acheievement here for sure) and not troubled by normal emotional responses to external stimulus...
