elef
The Nation Today Link Saudi 'dismayed' by Saddam hanging on Muslim holiday RIYADH - Saudi Arabia said Saturday's hanging of Saddam Hussein on the first day of the Muslim Eid al-Adha festival caused "surprise and dismay", the official Saudi Press Agency reported. "There has been a feeling of surprise and dismay that the implementation of the (death) sentence (against the former Iraqi president) came ... on the first day of Eid al-Adha during which ... Muslims come together," wrote SPA's political analyst in a commentary about reactions to Saddam's execution. The news agency, which expresses the official line, also chided the "politicization"of Saddam's trial. "Many observers expected that the trial of a former president who ruled Iraq for decades would take longer and (involve) detailed proceedings and tight legal procedures, away from politicization," the commentary said. elef
The unoffical version is that the royal family of Saudi as well as ordinary saudis are so upset that the result may be that US troops will be kicked out from Saudi Arabia. Central Scrutinizer
Yeah, right. I'd love to see that really. The hanging was done this quickly because the PM of Iraq promised he would execute Saddam before the first of the year. The trial took so long that he had to do this quick to keep his promise. Simple as that I think.

Khun_Kong
One analysis I heard said it was intentional, so that his execution would forever be connected to this holy day as a remembrance
chuckwoww
Not quite that simple Cent. Maliki is Shia. the Saudis are Sunni. What you are seeing now is a serious fight for control of Iraqi resources with no Saddam to keep Iran out. The US is going to have to take sides sooner or later. elef
One analysis I heard said it was intentional, so that his execution would forever be connected to this holy day as a remembrance If so IMO it's extreme stupidity - this festival is about forgiveness and pardon - muslims regard the execution at that day as blasphemy, insulting Allah.
