chuckwoww
"Police are patrolling beaches in Devon where members of the public have been taking goods washed ashore from stricken container ship MSC Napoli." Good thing it wasn't New Orleans. They'd be shot. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/devon/6287457.stm

Ckrisg
It's actually legal in the UK, providing you complete a form and send it to the Receiver of Wrecks. The insurance company has 12 months to ask you to return the goods providing they offer you a reward, the amount of the reward is based upon the level of risk you undertook to recover the salvage, in this case not a lot. The Police have stepped in because it was getting out of hand. I know this is an anal post but I used to work in Marine insurance
trooper
It's been funny to listen to collegues at work try to tell our customers that their cargo is propably picked on the beach by englishmen and there's nothing we can do :smirk: Amazing how much of the cargo in containers isn't insured. Julian2
This was a honoured tradition in this area of the UK for centuries, in fact wrecks were often encouraged by the practice of moving the lighthouses temporarily, leading ships onto offshore rocks.
