Aerial survey of marine life and reefs

The Siribha Chudhabhorn Conservation and Rescue Flying Volunteer Centre will carry out a survey on rare marine animals and seagrass reefs along the eastern coast from Chon Buri's Sattahip to Trat from February 19 to 28.

The project's cohost, Marine and Coastal Conservation Department DirectorGeneral Nisakorn Kositratna, Tuesday said the project's two fixed-wing aircraft would film and photograph the whereabouts and amount of rare marine animals, including dugongs and seagrass. The data will then be recorded on the global positioning system (GPS).

Nisakorn said this could be regarded as the country's first aircraft usage for a marine resource survey, which was a quick and thorough method in produce more accurate assessment of rare marine lives.
