Khun_Kong
I saw this proposed requirement a while back and now it appears to be reality. Smile, you're on candid camera! Link 10 bar managers arrested in Soi 6 inspection of venues. We joined a team of officers from the Banglamung District Licensing Unit who were backed up by â??Opo po lorâ? Civil Volunteers as they conducted a check on bars along the entire stretch of Soi 6 also known as Soi Yodsak. The group made checks on liquor licenses and [color:red]also checked for the presence of CCTV Cameras which is a new requirement for entertainment venues here in Pattaya[/color]. Details of specific licensing irregularities were not given to us but we can report that 10 Bar Managers were detained for further questioning due to problems with their licenses. The group will continue their checks during the next 3 days so if you do own a bar, especially in the Central Pattaya area, you can expect a visit from this group of officials. eyebee
I was in Windmill a week ago, when 10 (count them 10!) officials walked in. They seemed to be a combination of Police, Military Police and Council Officials. No white light had gone on and the girls were starkers on the stage. The girls quickly disappeared, but the officers didn't appear to be interested in that. All they wanted was to take a photo of the CCTV camera. And, I kid you not, a picture of the mamsan pointing to the camera! They then disappeared on their merry way. Why the hell does it take 10 officials to check that a venue has a CCTV in place? I'm sure they've got better things to do with their time. And what's the point of having a CCTV in a bar? The council says it's to "reduce crime" - but does it mean that they can spy on the lewd shows? Who knows?
ChristianTroy
The law is already 2 months old Been to Windmill 2 days ago and police came to check the cameras as well, at this night it was just 3 officers but in their defense it was pooring outside
YimSiam
Talk about a chilling effect... If there was one place on earth where we were safe to show our most despicable selves in full anonymity, Pattaya bars were it! Smile, you're on very candid camera... Hopefully just another earner for the BiB, and not a shift to enforcing anything beyond lining their pockets. I tend to oppose the sky-falling comments, but the sky does seem just a wee bit lower down now... CCTV in the bars, puh-lease...
ChristianTroy
They are just showing you entering the bar! There are not supposed to be cameras inside of the joint showing customers!
Roger_Baby
Why the hell does it take 10 officials to check that a venue has a CCTV in place? I'm sure they've got better things to do with their time. No (sadly), they don't have anything better to do. The question is...where is the camera and what is being viewed? eyebee
In Windmill, the camera is directly over the bar, and is one of those globe things (which you always see in Las Vegas Casinos). I don't know if there is only one camera inside the globe, or multiple cams. I understood the law was that there had to be a cam inside the bar as well as outside... MaakSiDa
Last night I went to my favourite Walking Street A-GoGo. First time since last week. Some things were different - the usual lesbian show at each top of the hour was cancelled. Instead I saw two police officers leaving the bar. Missed their arrival, but they obviously had been in there for only a few minutes. Odd thing was that the shower show next to the entrance, with totally nude girls, went on. Same on stage, were the topless girls didn't bother to cover up while the police was in the bar...
elef
It depends on the owner(s), his/their connections and how much he/they pay in tea money, same in SC and most or all other places.
