arizonadave
Howdy, just rented a place here for the girlfriend and I, enjoying the new place and town and all but feeling a little isolated already. Would be nice to meet a few locals to have a beer with in the evening or do some motorbiking or hiking or whatever.
Julian2
I live in the area but I'm 20kms out of town. why don't you try the Chiang Rai forum on ThaiVisa.com?
cardinalblue
Maybe there is an ex-pat club for CR or some other more informal get together spot? If you play golf, check out santiburi golf course on their sport day which always draw resident farangs. It used to be on tuesdays.... I live in the general area i.e. chiang mai thus more than a stone throw away... Where in arizona if i may ask? CB
arizonadave
So sorry for taking so long to respond. In the Phoenix area, north end of town in suburbia heaven/hell, nice, quiet, clean, safe, everything works, predictable, sterile, and very bland food. Sukhumvit
In Chiang Rai at present. Nice enough place. Quiet. Went down Punyodana Plaza last night. What a laugh that was.
Flashermac
I haven't been to CR in at least 20 years. If you want to talk about quiet -- why, nowadays they've even got electricity!
Sukhumvit
Flash, well worth another trip. I quite like the place. The people are decent sorts. One informal gauge I use is if taxi/tuk tuk drivers try to rip you off. So far so good. All quoting reasonable prices and not trying to rip off whitey. Took a trip over to Burma, sorry Myanmar, today. Fairly easy to do from CR. Bought the missus a Nokia phone over the border. Was a Nokia N73 which retails here for about 16k. In Myanmar it was 5k. Probably a copy but it works fine. It's a good copy and looks legit with all the packaging and accessories and no howling spelling mistakes. She's happy with it. So that will do me. Cheap as chips over there. Pity I don't smoke or use viagra as every whoreson in town tries to palm it off on you. They're also flogging copy designer shades from 40 to 100 baht and 5-7 vcds for 100 baht. Didn't do any homework before crossing over and went sans enough cash only to discover no atm and no money changer. The guy from the phone shop had to come over the border with us to the atm so could pay him.
