Voting in parliament for the next prime minster has been rescheduled from today to Monday amid reports of lobbying to ensure all coalition MPs toe the line in supporting the bid for People Power party leader Samak Sundaravej to be the premier.

It is feared that some coalition MPs may not throw their support behind Mr Samak, as happened during the vote on Tuesday for Mr Yongyuth to become House Speaker.

Three government MPs, party members of the PPP's coalition partners, broke ranks and cast their votes for the Democrat party's nominee, Banyat Bantadtan, instead.

Later six MPs, also believed to be from the PPP's coalition partners, cast their ballots for Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich, a Democrat MP who stood for the post of first deputy speaker.

Mr Yongyuth yesterday pledged his loyalty to the monarchy and vowed to work toward national reconciliation and security, and to promote people's politics.

Mr Yongyuth is being investigated by the Election Commission over allegations of vote buying in his native province of Chiang Rai.

He is also on trial for attempted murder in connection with a police raid on the house of an elderly couple in Ayutthaya province several years ago. He has denied both charges.
