Activists gathered Friday in front of the Chinese Consulate in the northern province of Chiang Mai to denounce Beijing's crackdown on Tibetans.

More than 50 protesters in front of the consulate held photos of injured Tibetans and banners condemning Beijing's actions in Thai, English, Burmese and Chinese languages. They demanded that Thailand and foreign countries boycott the Beijing Olympics.

Suriyan Thongnu-ead, coordinator of a peace group in Chiang Mai, called on China to stop attacking innocent Tibetans who call for democracy.

This demonstrators, he said, include Thais as well as Burmese and other foreigners.

Demonstrations in Tibet began on March 10, led by monks. Exiled representatives of Tibet in Dharamsala on Sunday put the protest death toll at 80.

Yeah, for like two minutes then buried and forgotten as people move on to the next news story. Let's see if I have this straight. Punish the Thai athletes who came so far for their one moment of glory in their life. That will teach them a lesson, but wait then how is China punished? Well, China probably would be able to celebrate an extra gold medal or two and add it to their trophy chest. Glad the demonstrators have such a well thought out plan.

It happened at the Moscow Olympics, kids that had devoted years of their lives to their sport missed out on competing at the highest level.

The payback boycott kept more kids out of the LA Olympics.

But Dean Lukin became the only non-Soviet block weightlifter to win a medal in the super heavyweight division.... Yeeeaaaayyy.

A little trivia here... did you know that Cambodia boycotted the 1956 Melbourne Olympics because of the Suez crisis?

:spin::spin::spin:
