elef
The Nation 4-09-2008 Link POLITICAL UNREST US businesses up and running By The Nation US businesses in Thailand are operating as usual and are experiencing no disruption to power, electricity or labor supply, according to the American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (AMCHAM). In the statement issued on Thursday, the chamber said that the protests in Thailand are limited to a small area of Bangkok and are having little to no effect on the daily lives of the majority of those living or traveling in Bangkok. Areas outside of Bangkok are, in general, free of protests and are open for travel. "Businesses, investors, and visitors to Thailand can be reassured that the current political unrest in Thailand should not adversely affect their activities. Thailand remains a compelling primary tourist destination, has a vibrant economy and continues to offer attractive opportunities for foreign investors," remarks AMCHAM President Thomas J. White. As always, when traveling abroad American citizens should consult the U.S. State Department website at www.travel.state.gov for further information regarding travel to that country. At this point, the U.S. State Department has not issued a travel warning regarding travel to Thailand. AMCHAM's membership of more than 630 member companies represents investment of over US$35 billion and provides more than 250,000 Thai jobs.
