Ok Hockey fans, this is the spiel;

Thailand Charity Ice Hockey Tournament -

Chevron Cup 2001...

The 7th annual Thailand Charity Ice Hockey Tournament, hosted by the Bangkok Flying Farangs, will be held October 31 and November 1, 2 and 3 at the Bully Sky ice-rink in Chiang Mai, Thailand. All money raised from the event will be donated to Father Joseph Maier's Human Development Center.

Once again this year the Flying Farangs will be assisted by Tom Barnes and Keith Fong and Asiasports. We are working on bringing in top quality referees like John Davy, Dan Emerson and Dan Pavich.

The format to this year's tournament will be similar to 2000. The rink in Chiang Mai is slightly smaller than Samrong but it is big enough for 5 on 5 plus goalie. The rink is only about 1 year old and it is one of the best facilities in South-east Asia.

The Samrong (Bangkok) rink has closed though we are hoping it will re-open soon. In the meantime we will use this opportunity to introduce international ice hockey to the city of Chiang Mai.

Most of teams which participated in previous years will be returning and there should be several new ones. The tournament will be limited to 14 to 16 teams and we are expecting all slots to be filled quickly. We therefore encourage you to register and pay the entrance fee as soon as possible. If you do not have enough players for a full team but would like to participate, please advise Tom Barnes and he can work on combining you with another team (tbarnes@asiasports.com.hk).

The entrance fee for the tournament will be the US$ 750 for the International Division and US$ 500 for the Asian. The entrance fee should be sent to the following via bank latest by October 1 the following :

For payment of fees please contact Kevin Hall <hall@amari.com>

The Amari Rincome Hotel will be the tournament hotel sponsor. The Rincome is a 4 star hotel and it is located half a kilometer from the rink. You can learn more about the hotel at www.amari.com. Rooms are available for the following rates per night:-

Room Rates - During Tournament Dates Superior room: single baht 1,600 twin baht 1,800

Deluxe room: single baht 2,050 twin baht 2,250

Suite: baht 4,900

The hotel is expecting high occupancy during this period thus it is recommended that rooms be booked early. The organizers have blocked an allotment for hockey teams.

You are requested to book directly with the hotel (attn: Mr. Marc Dumur General Manageremail : gm@rincome.amari.com

We have had problems in previous years with team attempting to book through travel agents only to be informed that the hotel was full. You will avoid this problem by booking directly with the hotel.

There is a hotel located in the same mall as the rink. They have offered twin rooms at 750 baht to the hockey players. The rooms are apparently spacious. We will provide contact information for this hotel shortly.

Those of you in need of a pre-tournament warm up or a post tournament cool down in Bangkok can make your bookings at the Amari Boulevard Hotel at rm@boulevard.amari.com. The hotel has offered these rates:

Room Rates - Before or After Tournament Dates Superior room: single baht 2,200 twin baht 2,600

Deluxe room: single baht 2,700 twin baht 3,100

If you have any comments or questions, please contact Kevin at hall@amari.com or call 66-2-653-9000 ext. 4200 or 66-2-255-4543 (direct line).

We look forward to welcoming you back to Thailand. We will be posting information at www.flyingfarangs.com.

=======================================

It should be great. I won't be going this year but I attended the last couple of years in BKK and witnessed some great talent (of the sporting kind).. Well, the Carlsberg girls were good too!

In fact due to work commitments I've unfortunately been unable to play at all this year.

A great event for a great cause.

Get your ass up to Chiang Mai this month!

Cheers,

Dan
