Lusty
A lad I know quite well recently married a Thai girl and now they live local to us.I suggested we go out one evening but Mrs Rusty won't have any of it. "Me not need know Thai in Angrit, always problem come,I no like"Is her always her answer when a situation like this occurs. I thought it might give her the chance to speak in her own language for a bit. Is this normal behavior? Thanx
sanyar
Depends on how the mrs sees her social status compared to others. I took my Mrs to one of those Thailand food festivals a few years ago-she was horrified and said it looked like an ex prostitiutes convention. She ended up enjoying it but I often find she will not have anything to do with those 'lower class' types with ex prostitiutes who married for cash being at the top of the list. There are many such in foriegn countries. Look at it from the our point of view, how many decent UK ladies with a Uni degree who have always worked hard would want to socialise with some tatooed fat lazy tart from a council estate? Bangkoktraveler
My wife will socialize with some of the ladies from the temple, but that is about it.
Lusty
If we happen to bump in to one whilst out and about and she is approached, she will engage in polite conversation but that will be as far as it goes here also. As Sanyar said,I certainly get the impression than she can be a bit snooty towards her country folks but I can't get it across to her that you can't tar everyone with the same brush. Certainly when we're in BKK she doesn't mind staying along Sukummvit as its nice and central to most things but she wouldn't be seen dead in Soi 4. I myself have friends and acquaintances from Chav's to University Lecturer's and treat others the way they treat me regardless of their social standing. Flashermac
Classism (if that's a word) works both ways. I know a university educated Thai whose husband runs a liquor and wine shop in the States. She has told me that most Thai wives who come in think she is snooty because she doesn't speak like they do. They automatically take it for granted that she must be an Isaan bar girls just as they are and is putting on airs.
Mentors
your Mrs. is right. What i can say from Switzerland, i saw a lot of nice Thai ladies coming to my country to life with the husband. First everything seems ok, then they start to meet new Thai "friends" and then, slowly the decadence started. There are always envious fallen angels around who will do everything, that a new arrived Thai can not live happy with her husband.
