Ryder
Ummm, it's called riding through a mountain range on a motorbike. Maybe you should try it sometime... You might even enjoy it Or have I come on the wrong forum which doesn't really do the 'biking thing'?
Guest lazyphil
sorry...i've ridden a bike (ok only a puny honda 150cc) over the patong mountain, that takes nerves of steel!.....often is the case what you photograph or video seldom shows the full feel of it anyway, so i take it back krabi is wonderful to ride around the giant karsts, especially in moonlight. Ryder
Well met man of Cromwell! Yes Krabi appeals for some reason, I've yet to buzz down there. The Patong mountain is a feat, no doubt about it. I did that one many moons ago on a small rental also. But the mountains size and length compared to Ranongs relentless bends and turns is not so great. Although making that a regular commute (as I know some of you do) is a cool thing. But I digress the youtube version has uploaded. Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upeG1Balcow This version might look better...
Ryder
A bit about the journey. Setting out was fine and traffic was light (a big plus in Ranong). Up and into the mountain was a little tricky to get back into again, especially as you're faced with steep climbs. No fast cars to race on this leg, just a skirmish with a silver pick-up. The full journey took about half an hour (to the Chumpon border bridge) but I've edited it somewhat for brevity and the fact that LiveVideo and Youtube have restrictions on how long and how much you can upload to their servers. The rest of the journey was pretty boring to say the least, although some potholes north of Chumpon nearly gave me a close encounter with the guard rail! (more on this for my next videos). Safe riding out there folks.
Dexi
Talking of great driving/riding roads in LOS,have you tried the Chiang Mai - Mair hong sorn route....I did a few miles around Pai last year and was quite impressed with the scenery, the air up on the mountain tops was wonderfully cool and refreshing even in the middle of a really hot day. Ryder
Yeah, a wee regret of mine was that I didn't make that route when I was up in Changers. I did the Mae Sa Valley Loop (very nice scenery) and the Mae Sa Border run. http://www.ontheroadthailand.com/ChiangMaiProvMaeSaValley.htm http://www.ontheroadthailand.com/Route_Tour_Chiang_Mai%20to%20Mae_Sai.htm But never got around to the Pai and Mae Hong Son vibe. Any chance of you firing up a trip report? I might return one day to check that area out
