Lukthung site

I do am really touched by her story (read it years ago and also watched the series on TV last year), but let's not forget that very often an unknown (or rare) virus is used (as an explanation) to cover up AIDS. With her husband's lifestyle it would come as no surprise.

I never considered AIDS before, there still seems to be some uncertainty about the exact cause of her death. However, as she died in '92 the theory would not really stand up if the husband was still alive, I wonder if he is?

I must confess to not being much of a Pumpuang fan, I don't consider her to be a great singer, rather ordinary at best. The story though is what legends are made of.-peter

I quite like the Luk thung I sometimes hear around Thailand, at least I think it's luk thung I'm not sure. I like it with a beat and it sounds a lot like Irish music, good to dance to and sanuk.

However whenever I ask my thai friends to help me buy luk thung I end up with something slow and screechy, which is ok as it reminds me of thailand but not the sanuk music I'm after.

Anybody know what I'm talking about? can anyone advise me how best to describe what I'm after?

Thanks.

Well, morlam is more 'sreechy' than lookthung, but it also has more of a beat, so difficult to say what it is you heard and like. Lookthung is slower and more ballad like songs with less traditional instruments. Some lukthung is jazzed up and faster though, such as khun lam yai and that is not screechy. But then again you say like irish music, so that puts it back in the morlam section. The nearest I know with a beat and like irish music would be Banyen Raggan, some of that reminds me of Irish music. She is really outstanding, a magnificent performer. Sao morlam rabird loke and sua lai sii pii lai jai are a couple of good CD's. Most of her music is morlam, but who cares what it's called, it's more fun than sex! -peter

Come to think of it the CD Sao morlam rabird loke has some latin or bossa nova type songs on it, so the other one might be a better bet. You can listen to some real player clips on www.thainetcity.com They have everything, lukthung, lukrung morlam and pop. Good service, I always get them delivered to UK within the week. Recomend a listen to Siriporn Umpaipong, Jintara Poolarp, Yui Yat Yerr, Fon Tunasunthorn, Sunaree Rachesima, Monsit and Banyen Raggan of course.-peter
