Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will visit Australia and New Zealand from March 13 to 16 as planned, even though the red-shirts will stage mass protests against the government during that period, acting government spokesman Panithan Wattanyakorn said on Thursday.

The United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) plans a mass demonstration in Bangkok aimed at toppling the Democrat-led coalition administration on March 14, with lead-up rallies in the provinces in the days prior to it.

“If the visits were to be postponed it must be agreed to by the organising teams on both sides. However, even if there was a postponement it would have nothing to do with the red-shirt rally as the premier has assigned his deputy Suthep Thaugsuban to oversee the situation,†Mr Panithan said.
