Red-shirt protesters may gather at the NBT if the state-run television station continues to air reports suggesting that the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) is against the country's most revered institution, UDD leader Jatuporn Prompan warned on Thursday.

He was referring to reports that convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, speaking via video link at the red-shirt rally recently, said a member of the aristocratic elite - the amataya - who is more than 80 years old should step down.

"It's not true that he was referring to the highly respected institution, because the red-shirts have always been clear in their opposition to Privy Council president and Statesman Prem Tinsulanonda.

"The news report on the UDD's plan to burn the country [during its mass rally] this Saturday is also false," Mr Jatuporn said.

The opposition Puea Thai party list MP said the red-shirt demonstrators will mobilise to different areas, Details will be revealed later.

[color:red]He said the protesters may travel to the Office of the Election Commission (EC) next Monday, calling on the EC to expedite the 258 million baht donation case against the Democrat Party.

"The EC has been very slow in investigating the case because it is using double standards.

"Our legal team is gathering information to take action against EC chairman Apichart Sukhagganond for negligence of duty under Article 157 of the Penal Code," he said.

[color:red]Mr Jatuporn said he suspected the tourism and peace groups who will wear pink and converge on Lumpini park on Friday afternoon to counter the prolonged UDD rally, could be the same group who joined the yellow-shirt People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) protests against ousted premier Thaksin and pro-Thaksin governments.

"They could be the people who laid siege to Government House, Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports and I believe they have worn yellow shirts before.

"I also would like to warn academics at Chulalongkorn University not to be the enemy of the red-shirts.

Academics who have been on the PAD stage should not play dirty by dragging the public into siding with the government and put pressure on the red-shirts," Mr Jatuporn said.
