Guest
Advanced Info Service has agreed to join rival firms DTAC and TA Orange in unlocking International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) codes on cellphones for free, enabling users to choose the network of any supplier, Boonklee Plangsiri, AIS chief executive, announced yesterday. The Telephone Organisation of Thailand asked AIS to begin unlocking the codes last week in preparation for liberalisation of the telecom sector. Phone locking is prohibited under the new Telecom Act. AIS previously used the codes to prevent other suppliers' SIM cards being used in its handsets. http://www.bangkokpost.com/News/05Apr2002_news18.html
