Guest
Hi guys after a pretty traumatic divorce I've decided to take a trip to los .....exploratory / wind down etc! I was wandering what ,if any prospects there are here for web designers. I specialise in flash animation / photoshop manipulation/ dreamweaver / fireworks etc etc! My current portfolio is at http://www.moonfizz.com I would welcome any info on freelancing / or any ideas or stories of success in this field here. Regards, James. My Cow Jai
James, Regarding employmwent here, LOS does not pay too well for competent computer skills - I know because we hire a lot of talented locals. A person with HTML, Flash, Photoshop, Javascript, ColdFusion, ASP, Perl, and Apache skills is going to get between 12 - 20,000 Baht a month. I know of no companies that use farangs for this kind of design. Systems architecture and databasing yes. Many IT positions are also closed to foreigners as Thailand tries to nuture its talent. There is quite a lot of skilled local labour in the I.T. sector and you must compete against it on an unequal footing. However, all is not lost - I know of both Brits and Yanks who have sold freelanced web design back to their native countries, with much success, while based in LOS. Makes much much more sense - earn in Dollars, spend in Baht! Good luck and check out the following links: http://www.jobpilot.co.th/ http://www.topjobs.co.th/ http://www.jobtopgun.com/jobseeker/quicksearch.cfm?keyword=programmer
Guest
Thx for the job links, the one at http://www.topjobs.co.th/ for http://shrimp-asia.com sounds interesting! Would this be the famous Shrimp I've read about on the forum, calenders and xxx The last job I applied for was for davidlace.com and involved cloning various models body parts and enhancing etc I'd a thought a company that size would have original content! I thought the guys you mentioned over there already freelancing might be interested in http://www.freelancers.net In the past I've had a lot of work from there and there is an excellent forum. A lot of the work can be from home. Your suggestion of $$$$ instead of the local currency is may be the only way to go in los, but would it affect the rates that I normally charge? I guess that it's time I put up something commercial on the web for myself to profit out of ......any ideas appreciated dating agency / fine art site/ giclee production? Regards, James. ________________________________________________ "of all the things in life I've lost, I miss my mind the most" _______________________________________________
