Guest
For my C: drive I set sharing to "Do not share this folder" (under Properties > Sharing). But when I come back later (after a reboot or two), it is always reset to "Shared". I have searched the (nearly useless) MS Knowledge Base, but cannot find an answer on how to prevent this reset. I'm using Win2k, SP2. Any ideas? TIA.
solar
I think you may be referring to 'Hidden Shares' which are created automatically by Win2K. The share name will be C$ in the case of your C drive. Any other volumes\disks will have a similar share with the $ sign appended to the drive letter. These shares are used for remote admin and are only visible to users with 'administrator' privileges.
Guest
"...These shares are used for remote admin and are only visible to users with 'administrator' privileges" Sounds reasonable, and since I'm the only administrator on my system, I suppose I shouldn't be concerned. Thanks, solar.
