Flashermac
Utapao, airport near Pattaya, wrongly taken as a sleepy airfield, has had A-380 superjumbo capable runway since early 1960-ies, had been the longest runway on the planet for decades. Americans were using it as the loading base for B-52 for bombing of Vietnam. Ironically, the other side of that proxy war is using it now, massively. 10-15 Russian jumbos there daily. Utapao is an alternate for Swampypoom and Don Muang. My Mrs landed there on her return from a month's studies in China when the Yellow Shirts had closed down the Bangkok airports. They hadn't heard a word about the closures in the PRC and were quite surprised to find out where they were landing. They had to take buses to Bangkok. think_too_mut
Utapao is an alternate for Swampypoom and Don Muang. Not really. With capacity of 3,000 passengers a day (less than 10 average planeloads) can't be. More like an emergency. It's infrastructure (bags handling and carussels, customs, immigration, building facilities) that limits it. Their site also shows Russian planes. think_too_mut
Pattaya, Aquarium, operated by the same company as Aqua World in Singapore (Sentosa Island). Quite a standard and worth visiting. From there, Marry Christmas everyone!
think_too_mut
Pattaya, from The Jomtien Grand Palace. Nothing "grand" there, a 1.200B hotel mainly with packaged Koreans and Chinese. Still, the sunset felt fantastic.
