Horrific Death For Cyclist

Body parts of an unidentified cyclist run over by many vehicles were found scattered on Thursday along a 200-metre stretch of the same highway in Chachoengsao where two British cyclists were killed last month, police said.

 

The horrific accident occurred on highway 304 in Ratchasarn district.

 

Pol Lt Panyanakorn Chaichanasombat, a Ratchasarn police station investigator, said most of the remains were unrecognisable as human because they had been run over multiple times by passing vehicles.

 

Police officers and rescuers found a damaged blue bicycle on the side of the road, and a side mirror along with fragments of glass 30 metres away from it.

 

An item of grey underwear was also found attached to what seemed like the hip area of the victim, he said.

 

Pol Lt Panyanakorn said they had found no evidence they could directly use to identify the dead cyclist.

 

No friends or relatives had shown up to provide any information, he added.

 

Theeraporn Pragorb, a medical examiner, said the victim was probably male, based on a clump of hair attached to a flatten body part which resembled a face.

 

The remains were so mangled that she was unable to identify the time of death, the victim's age, or how the victim died, she said.

 

The various body parts were gathered up and taken to the Police Hospital in Bangkok for further examination.

 

Two British cyclists, Peter Root and Mary Thompson, both 34, were run over by a pickup truck on 304 road in the same district, Ratchasarn, in February.

 

The couple was on a world cycling tour. They had started biking around the globe for two years and had travelled through Europe, the Middle East, China and 23 other countries without incident before their lives were cut short in Thailand.
