Gen Romklao Thuwatham's widow yesterday criticised Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's description of her husband's death in her controversial Mongolia speech.

Nicha Thuwatham's criticism came in an open letter posted on her Facebook page.

In her speech at the Conference of the Community of Democracies in Mongolia, Ms Yingluck defended her brother, ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra, and spoke of the deaths of the 91 people killed during the crackdown on red-shirt protesters in 2010. In the speech she described the victims as fighters for democracy and freedom.

Mrs Nicha said Ms Yingluck should not have said her husband, like the others, had lost his life for fighting for democracy.

"My husband did not fight for democracy, since it already existed. He tried to restore the rule of law," she said.

"According to the Truth for Reconciliation Commission of Thailand's report, evidence was found that the men in black who staged violent attacks against security forces with M79 grenades and rifles, caused my husband's death, had received support from red-shirt guards," Mrs Nicha said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will seek court approval for arrest warrants for three unnamed people who are suspects in the death of Gen Romklao.

DSI chief Tarit Pengdith yesterday said the three appeared in video footage of the clashes on April 10, 2010, when the then colonel was killed.

He said that military officers ordered to crack down on red-shirt protesters in 2010 will not be held accountable and will be protected by Section 70 of the Criminal Code.
