camera costs

Hello all

 

 

 

2 weeks before my trip and I've broken my camera. Does anyone know how the cost of these in Bangkok compares to what it is back in the UK?

 

 

 

I'm not after a digital or anything too fancy, just a reasonably decent 35mm compact with zoom and auto-most things.

 

 

 

The model I've got an eye on is OLYMPUS

Its just under £150 in the UK. Any guide to the BKK price?

 

 

 

Or are there any Thai based shopping websites where I can look it up myself?

I can't answer about Thailand vs UK prices but I was recently looking for a good auto focus camera (Pentax 170mm Zoom) and found prices in Bangkok were about 40% higher than prices in the states.

 

 

 

Also, all the prices for that particular camera were exactly the same in several different stores that I checked. Hmmmm.

 

 

 

I am going to wait for a trip to Singapore, Hong Kong or back to the states to buy my camera.

Was in MBK at lunchtime and looked into 3 camera shops.

 

 

 

The first had the zoom 80 @ 8,400 he said best price was 8,000. (The non zoom version had a sticker price of 6,500).

 

 

 

Second place MBK Camera had a wider selection (sticker prices)

 

Zoom 80 @ 8,900

 

Zoom 160 @ 9,900

 

Zoom 170 @ 14,500

 

Zoom 140 Super @ 11,900

 

 

 

Third place on ground floor seemed to have best prices (again all sticker prices)

 

Zoom 75 @ 5,850

 

Zoom 80 @ 7,550

 

Zoom 115 @ 6,300

 

Zoom 140 @ 8,100

 

They also had a second hand Zoom 80 @ 5,000

The one I looked at here was the 140 (i think) so there's not a lot of difference then.

 

 

 

I will buy it here so I can retain the option of head butting the sales assistant when it breaks down a day after the warranty expires.
