Metropolitan Police chief Kamronwit Thoopkrachang and his deputies on Thursday morning held a video conference with police in various localities to discuss an operational plan to cope with political protests at various spots in the capital city, reports said.

Forty-six companies of police have been deployed in areas where the Internal Security Act (ISA) is in place as well as outside the ISA-controlled areas such as Samsen railway station, where the Democrat-led rally is set to begin this evening, the Uruphong intersection, where an anti-government group has rallied, and in front of the Thai Rath newspaper officea on Vibhavadi Rangsit highway, where a group of red shirts has gathered, also in protest against the blanket amnesty bill.

At Samsen railway station, preparations are being made for the Democrat mass rally, including a temporary stage, under the supervision of Democrat MP Puthipong Punnakant.

Mr Puthipong said the protesters would be asked not to spill over beyond the railway line into the ISA-controlled area.

The rally would be peaceful. Whether it would be prolonged depends on the situation, the MP said.

Sethasiri road in front of the head office of the Democrat Party has been closed to traffic.
