The rector of the King Mongkut Institute of Technology Lat Krabang (KMITL) has been removed for allegedly fixing grades for his son and opening a study programme to serve politicians.

The institute council voted 9-4 on Wednesday to dismiss rector Tawil Paungma. The council also agreed to set up a panel to discipline him.

Mr Tawil was accused of fixing grades in eight subjects for his son in the first semester of the 2012 academic year. Mr Tawil denied the allegations.

The rector was also alleged to have launched a special programme to offer doctoral degrees to politicians to upgrade their education profiles.

The course was attended by 48 people, mostly Pheu Thai MPs.

These include the PM's Office Minister Santi Prompat, Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Mai Yaowapa Wongsawat, Pheu Thai MP for Khon Kaen Preechapol Pongpanich, Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Mai Julaphan Amornvivat, Pheu Thai MP for Saraburi Auttapol Wongprayoon, and red-shirt leader Arisman Pongruangrong. :chili:
