Chiang Mai laptop accessory prices versus Bangkok

I am wondering whether to make a trip to Bkk to purchase some upgrades for my laptop. I need an internal CD writer and a bigger hard disk (20 or 30 gb)

There are very few places in Chiangmai that sell laptop accessories. One place, though, does have a Teac internal laptop CD writer that they claim is new (although it's just packaged in plastic wrap) and will sell it to me for 5800 baht with a one-month warranty. They'll install it too, of course, but I'm wondering if I can get a better price and a better warranty in Bangkok. I see there's a better internal CD writer available in America by Sony for as little as 95 dollars or so, so I don't consider 5800 baht a great deal. What do you Bkk dwellers think?

Also, aren't a lot of laptop hard disks (IBM, for example) made in Thailand and thus should not have the exorbitant price because high import duties on technology would not apply to domestic products?

I'm posting two related questions in a moment.
