The 3-metre dummy, made with foam and painted In black, depicts the “Men in Black†aiming an assault rifle, with hand grenades hung around his waist. A caption below the dummy reads “New Power Above the Law of Thaksin Regimeâ€. Thavorn said that the unidentified armed gunmen widely referred to as “Men in Black†first emerged in 2010 after Maj-Gen Khatiya Sawasdiphol, alias Seh Daeng, visited fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra overseas to discuss about the creation of a band of armed gunmen to battle security forces during the government of prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. He accused the armed gunmen of being responsible for the death of five protesters, including the latest victim, Mr Suthin Tharathin. Thavorn joined the protesters in holding a ritual to curse and restrain the “Men in Black†to prevent them from harming the protesters.
