EC's Somchai says there r 2 scenarios now: 1. EC, Govt work out new election date. 2. EC, political parties work out new election date.

Constitutional Court judges voted 6:3 the Feb 2 election was unconstitutional as the poll was not held on the same day. Via @nikhon_

Expected ... but Jatuporn and his crowd will be jumping up and down and screaming that they are victims! Actually, if Pheu Thai is so sure it will win again, it should welcome the decision. However, that would be the intelligent thing to do, and this government has not been notable for making intelligent decisions.

Expect for the attacks on the courts and protesters to increase. But I don't foresee any open conflict with the red shirts descending on the capital like the Taiping rebels. Also, this means that Yingy will stay on as caretaker PM until after the next election.

And none of this would be happening, if PT had not tried to ram through legislation to pardon Takky and return his lost money. No one is to blame as much as Thaksin for the current mess. :(

If it came to conflict, I see the lower north and southern Issan siding with the government. Even the western part of the North voted for the Democrats the last time around.

I actually agree with this tweet:

Sunai â€@sunaibkk 6m

Dark day for democracy in #Thailand. Disruption of voting in some constituencies can nullify national election. Dangerous precedence.

It acually means that with this ruling is all you have to do is disrupt voting in 1 constituency and the whole election is null and void. That can be abused in a major way!

Abhisit urges the government and PDRC to hold talks

The Democrat Party wants the Election Commission and the government to work together to prevent a repeat of the February 2 election violence if a new election is to be staged as ruled by the Constitution Court.

Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, however, declined to confirm whether the party would contest the new election. But he urged both the government and the People’s Democratic Reform Committee to hold talks to put an end to their political differences saying that without talks the country cannot move forward.

He noted that the government has persistently insisted that election must go ahead and reforms should be discussed afterward.

The PDRC, meanwhile, has demanded reform to be made before the people go to the polls.

Party spokesman Chavanond Intharakomalasut further said that the Democrat Party would join the poll if it feels that the election is fair.

The party boycotted the February 2 election.

Nope, it did go the way the powers that be wanted it. That is why Pheu Thai is so pissed off. If there is a new election, the Democrats will probably run in it ... and cut way into PT's votes and seats.

PT has nothing to complain about. They refused to listen to the Election Council, which warned the election would be a disaster since it could not be held countrywide on the same day. And in fact most districts in the south didn't even have any candidates running for office. But PT bulled its way through, forcing the election to go ahead on 2 February, figuring to get enough seats to stay in power. It hardly even seemed like an election, since until near the end PT was the only party that even had campaign posters up. Thaksin called the shots on this one, and the Court called his bluff. TS, Takky.
