phiketpete
i agree that powere outages are a pain in the arse here. Usually following/during a major downpour but i have to say that my experience was the same in New Jersey and i won't even mention California. Do they have electricity there anymore? Guest
"We miss a lot of things here in Farangland, but Asia's infrastructure isnt one of them." But, then: "#1 [Tuesday] - Power goes out and 30 minutes later repair crew arrives and whacks the tranformer with a stick. Power restored. #2 [Tuesday, later] - Power goes out and after ten minutes street merchant gets annoyed and sends small child to whack transformer with a stick. Power restored. #3 [Wednesday] - Power goes out, crew arrives and spends first 45 minutes whacking transformer with a stick. Call for replacement transformer and install with bailing wire, chewing gum and fairy dust. Power restored. #4 [Thursday] - Power goes out and crew arrives. Supplies of fairy dust and chewing gum have since been sold on black market. Bailing wire installed yesterday now stolen. Install new bailing wire. Repair unsucessful. Drive around neighborhood in truck to inspect sub-stransformers. Stop for som tam, smoked fish and sticky rice. Continue driving around whacking sub-transformers with sticks. Power restored." -------------------------------------------- artie, how could anyone NOT miss THIS?
ALHOLK
Hi! Many years ago when I was in Pattaya I heard a story about a remote village loosing power. Apparently the feed was an underground copperwire. Someone found this out and stole one (1) km (thats more than half a mile for the metrically impaired) by first digging it out and the cuttng it in both ends. Oh well, shit happens, regards ALHOLK
gobbledonk
Sam, LOL ! Ok, our repair crews MAY be whacking transformers with sticks, but they at least leave us with the illusion that we have reliable power supplies. We did have an old generator installed outside our building about 18 months ago, when we having probs with power in SE QLD, but the thing was noisy and damn near asphyxiated us !
