Visa's

Although a Thai national and nothing to do with me, I thought I would start a visa thread. The rules are always changing officials themselves of embassy's, consulates, even in the same countries, interpret the rules differently. My boyfriend tells me in the United kingdom with Hull and Cardiff this is the case, again down to the official as the issue of a visa is at their sole discretion.

To start the thread off :

United Kingdom visa requirements for Cardff

Note there is not a choice to have A-0 but London website there is, As mentioned Cardiff and Hull again have different ideas about things.

You can see the available choices as indicted for a non immigrant visa on the Cardiff Thai consulate website and in person

In my boyfriends case he has a non immigrant category " 0 " which is clearly stamped on his visa.

Prompted by a recent post that a non - immigrant catorgoy "0" was impossible in my boyfriends case and it could only be a non- immigrant visa catorgoy "O-A" and basically I didn't know what I was talking about and to get my facts straight so I decided to do just that.

The problem is we are both right, it's as simple that as this it depends where the visa is issued within the United Kingdom. Please don't say it should be the same or i'll scream. It's not as there is inconsistency in the interpretation of the requirements, between Embassy's and Consulates for a start, and further confused between particular immigration officers interpretation which is final.

The basic rule is if the immigration officer is satisfied with the documents and your ability to support yourself in Thailand for a period of time you get a visa. Some embassy's want to see money in only a current account nothing else. Others will take a combination of savings and current. Others will except a combination of savings, current account and income or what ever. Some want 2 photos with the application, and in my boyfriends case just 1

Other embassies or consulates in other countries may be different

My boyfriend is over 50, but not of pensionable age. We are not married, and no children.

London embassy http://thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/49

As you can see he would not be able to obtain a non-immigrant category "0" from the Royal Thai Embassy London unless he was over 65 and claiming a state pension in which case it would be a non-immigrant catogory "0-A" visa as the poster pointed out.
