Khon Kaen - Some 200 troops have raided a rented apartment building and rounded up 21 militant red shirts allegedly with two grenades and two gas cylinders.

The suspects include a woman. Two of the suspects were identified as Prathin Junket and Meechai Muangmontree.

The raid took place Friday evening. The troops found the suspects on the fourth floor of Chonlapruek Apartment in Muang district.

Meechai and Prathin told the troops that they rented the entire fourth floor of the building to make preparations to fight against the coup. They said they received an order for a red-shirt leader to create incidents as part of the fight.

Frag grenades, shotgun shells, 9mm pistol rounds, fighting knife, I'm not sure if that's a smoke grenade or what. Can't tell what that is at the edge of the picture. Looks like the grenades have been around a while ... left over from the Khmer Rouge days? Bet they still work.

Combined force of soldiers and local police raided an apartment room in downtown Khon Kaen province Saturday, arresting 23 militiamen and seizing a cache of arms and ammunition they intended to incite violence against the coup.

The raid at Chonlapruek apartment came after security officials were alerted of a suspected group of militiamen was holding meeting at a room of the apartment.

Soldiers and police encircled the apartment and stormed into the room where they found 23 militiamen inside. The militiamen said they belonged to the Civilian Volunteers for Democracy Protection Group.

Of the 23 militia, one is a woman.

Hand grenades, smoke bombs, several hundred rounds of ammunition, two LPG gas tanks were seized along with ten vehicles.

Interrogation of the suspects revealed that they planned to incite violence in Khon Kaen and several northeast provinces after the coup.

They also admitted of receiving order from the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship in Bangkok to use the weapon to create a “Khon Kaen†model of violence.

The seizure in Khon Kaen had links with recent seizures of arms in Samut Sakhon and Lopburi provinces, security officials said.

Intelligence source said the seizure of the weapon and its connection with several arms seizure in several provinces supported the information of the Army that there were attempts to smuggle weapon to the capital to incite disorders and prompted the military to stage the coup.

They said security alert was mounted in Nakhon Ratchasima, Kalasin and Khon Kaen for possible violence by armed groups.

More of the weapons seized at Khon Kaen. I knew if there was ammunition, there had to be weapons to use it in. These from Michael Yon's Facebook page ...
