A 34-year-old journalist was hit by a taxi on Bangkok's Ploenchit Road at midnight yesterday and succumbed to his injuries at Police General Hospital later.

Metee Mooktaree was crossing the road near the Ploenchit BTS station when he was hit by a taxi and then came under a No 511 air-conditioned bus.

Taxi driver Supat Phakathong waited at the scene and testified that he was driving slowly, looking for customers, but |couldn't stop in time when he suddenly saw the man come before him.

Metee's wife Sansanee Nisu, 32, said her husband worked as a reporter for the Muslim White TV channel, and just 10 days ago had started covering Thai politics for Al Jazeera television.

She added her husband was heading home to Min Buri when he was fatally hit.

Metee's burial ceremony was to be held later in the evening yesterday at a mosque on Charoenkrung Road.
