This is not the first time this has happened. It really pisses me of that Thais celebrate Hitler:

Director Defends 'Hitler Scene' in Thai Junta Film

BANGKOK — A Thai director has defended a scene showing schoolchildren painting and applauding a picture of Adolf Hitler in his short film, which was commissioned by Thailand's ruling military junta.

"I didn't think it would be an issue," the director of the short film, Kulp Kaljaruek, told Khaosod

........... Jeez it is not like people have objected to Thailands Hitler worshipping before. The guy should have known that it IS an issue:

Same article:

There have been several events in Thailand in recent years that have drawn criticism for their seeming support of Hitler and Nazism.

In 2011, a Nazi-themed sports parade at a Catholic school in Chiang Mai province sparked outrage and prompted the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok to protest the school’s administration. In the wake of the controversy, directors at Sacred Heart School said they would increase lessons on world history.

In another recent controversy, some graduates at Chulalongkorn University - one of Thailand's top schools - posed for photos with a "Superhero Hitler" mural near the History Department.

................ They really never fucking learn

Much goes back to the Thai lack-of-education system.

Appears they only know some cartoon version of Hitler :dunno:

You being Dutch, know a thing or three about Hitler and the years that he was in power. Just a wild guess on

my part, but maybe the Dutch education system teaches a bit better then the Thai system...

Made the international news...

Thailand’s military government ordered up a movie on “Thai Values†with a bizarre Hitler cameo

http://qz.com/309575/thailands-military-government-ordered-up-a-movie-on-thai-values-with-a-bizarre-hitler-cameo/

Ever since Thailand’s military coup in May, the ruling junta has been campaigning to restore Thailand’s “traditional valuesâ€â€”which this weekend included a short film about an overachieving schoolboy, whose talents include painting admiring portraits of Adolph Hitler.

The opening of the film 30 seems a bit like an

, as it shows a youthful protagonist triumphing at a wide range of scholastic and extracurricular activities. It was commissioned by the junta as part of “Thai Niyom (Thai Pride),†a compilation of short films that display the “Twelve Values†of prime minister and junta leader Prayuth Chan-ocha, which was shown for free in Thai theaters this weekend. The Hitler cameo was first noticed by the Thai news site Khaosod English, and 30 was pulled from YouTube shortly afterwards (it can still be seen here).

Thailand is known for its occasional embrace of “Hitler chic,†in the form of fried chicken restaurants, parades, and superhero murals. Depictions of Hitler and the swastika are displayed in apparent obliviousness to Nazi genocide and war crimes during World War II, when Thailand was aligned mainly with the Axis powers.

A government spokesman told Khaosod that while he had not seen the film, “If I were to make an uneducated guess, it may have been intended to say that democracy has good and bad sides.†The junta recently announced that elections in Thailand would be delayed until at least 2016.

I'm not sure if this is right either ... I have never read this book or any disire too, but I believe anyone should have the fundamental right to do so if they wanted ....

An Amsterdam antiques gallery owner has been charged with putting up for sale a copy of Hitler's "Mein Kampf", banned in the Netherlands. If convicted, Van Eyck faces up to six months in jail or a 7,600 euro ($10,300) fine.

Quite Frank Leigh, I think the Thai politicians have almost destroyed what had been a decent enough system of training teachers. I'm referring to the old teacher college system. Under it, would be teachers tested to be admitted to a teacher college when they finished the 10th grade (sort of like the old O Levels). Those admitted would study methods of teaching, ed psych and general basic subject matter for the next two years, including one full term of student teaching. On completing that, they were certified to teach grades 1 to 3. Almost all would go on two specialise in a major and minor subject for another two years, once again including student teaching. At the end of it, they were certified to teach all primary school grades. Most would quit there, but the top students would test for admission to a campus of Srinakarinwirot, the education university (main campus at Prasarnmit). Only 60 in each major would be accepted at each campus (5 in number), which meant that only the top 300 in each major out of all the 40+ teacher colleges nationwide could gain admission. They studied two more years, including a third go at student teaching. They received a BEd on graduation and would easily find a job in a secondary school.

Nowadays, the teacher colleges have all been converted into "rachaphat universities", where the standards are notoriously low. My understanding is that rachaphat grads study education for only a semester or two, then get a teaching credential. Thus the teachers of today are actually less qualified than those of 25 or more years ago!

On top of that, pay also sucks, which means that many Thais will leave it after a few years. You get what you pay for, and the government isn't willing to pay for much. Starting pay for teachers isn't much more than 10,000-11,00 baht a month. Try supporting a family on that.

p.s. I haven't even mentioned the curriculum, which includes very little about the outside world. Don't blame the kids of they think Hitler is humorous. They don't even know what side Thailand was on in that war. :p
