Guest
Being a bit of a gardening enthusiast I love to look at plants and gardens if I have the opportunity when I am in LOS.I often marvel at the size of palms etc.which we in the UK. can only grow as tiny potted specimens. Some of the places I have visited include Nong Nood gardens near Pattaya ( extensive landscaped gardens with a large lake, cascades, orchid collection, and cactus area ),The Queen Mothers Park on the outskirts of Bangkok ( makes a pleasant afternoon trip )and of course Lumpini and Dusit in central Bangkok. Anyone know of any other places like this that might be worth a visit ?
Guest
No doubt there are many. I believe there is a "Royal" garden in CM (mostly roses, thus the nickname for CM) and a few serious botonist folk tell me that there are MANY species of Orchid found only here. Try: The Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens http://www.botany.net/IDB/botany.html http://www.forest.go.th/Botany/Flora/Flora_introduction.htm Enjoy. Zaad
I went to the highest mountain (highest spot in Thailand) in Chiang Mai last April and I found very nice flowers there. It isn't really a big garden with many flowers, but it's deffinately worth a visit if you like "higher nature".
pattaya127
I mentionned the thread to one of my friends, and he was also speaking of this mountain, Doi Inthanon, if that is the one you meant.
Zaad
Yes, that's the one and the name of that "park" on the top is called: "The Great Holy Relics Pagda Nabhamethanidol Nabhapolbhumisiri".
Guest
It's not exactly a park, but Koh Kret in Nonthaburi province, outside Bangkok, is worth a look. Take Chaeng-Wattana Road all the way to the River, take the last street on the left, and take a ferry to the island from the temple at the end of the street. You can walk all around the island in an hour. Places to eat and drink cloae to the ferry landing, and a Mon community with pottery works. A pleasant half-day. Guest
Is this one of the few places in Thailand where temperatures can drop below freezing,or am I confusing it with the mountain in Loei province ?
Zaad
I was there (Doi Inthanon) in summer, April, and the temperature on the top was 14 Celsius. My guess is that it could indeed be below freezing, if visited in winter. Don't forget your gloves!! :-)
