One night in Manilla

I'm gonna stay only one night in Manilla. As I understand the main sanuk area is EDSA entertainment complex. Any good hotels around 1000P there? Any ideas on ST or LT rates and EWR's or as we call them BF's?

Any other suggestions for Manilla at night are more than welcome.

Cheers,

Limbo

Don't know about hotels in that area, Ermita is near by and has the cheapest hotels (500 peso up). My feeling is that both areas are quite dangerous to walk around at night, though I have recently been told by a German guy married to a Filipina that he feels safer there than in Pattaya! It is just a feeling from a combination of the decrepit buildings and thuggish-looking guys and kids who hang out in the area.

Last I heard, the barfine in the complex was a 1000 peso, but watch out for the gals there as many of them have worked for ten years or more (starting off at 12/13 in the old Angeles base) and the neon makes them look cuter than they really are. I have heard of guys paying 4000/5000 for all night but I usually bung them a 1000 peso in the morning and only had one girl turn nasty, ended up giving her 2000 peso as it wasn't worth the worry - they can claim rape, etc., which you can be executed for. The police there make Thai cops seem like Buhhdist monks, and I have had taxi drivers do insane manoeuvres to avoid being pulled over - basically, no-one wants anything to do with them.

Limbo,

There are a whole lot of bars in EDSA and there is a hotel right across the road but the road is 6 lanes if I remember correctly. I's sorry but I cannot remember the name of the hotel.

Traders Hotel on Roxas Blvd is very close to a bar called Chaos, bar fine is 1000 pesos, good choice of girls and the rate for an all nighter was 2000 pesos in March.

Safety: Manila is not a particularly safe place to venture out on your own. The road where Chaos is located is an unlit service road running alongside Roxas Blvd. Take care and you will be alright.

Have fun ::

PS: Sarisin can give you info on EDSA

Limbo,

Firehouse is the largest of the bars in EDSA and when I was there in April it looked like they could do with a clear out as some of the pole huggers were looking a bit long in the tooth. I thought Cotton Club, in front of you when entering the complex, had the cutest and also Casino ?? (1st on the left) had just brought some new talent in. A couple of other bars I can remember are Pit Stop and My Fair, I think there is also a karaoke place and an Arabic style nightclub.

As Taipan mentioned Chaos is on Roxas Boulevard and is about 10 minutes by cab from EDSA and IMO is the best bar in town and has some real cuties. It can be quiet there during the week tho', but it usually buzzes on the weekend. If you do go there from EDSA you will also pass another bar called Visions, worth a stop but the quality can be hit and miss.

If you still haven't got company by closing time, 3am I think, head for LA Café on Mabini, this a 24/7 operation similar Thermae, although not quiet as dark, full of freelancers of varying quality but there is usually something for everyone here. Upstairs has a band and disco in the evening and downstairs has a couple of pool tables, and this it's a great people watching place. As for costs expect 500 - 1000 pesos for the night.

Sorry can't really help with the hotel for 1000 pesos and yes it can seem unsafe due to the dirty, run down and seedy appearance of the place, but keep your wits about you and you'll be ok.

Enjoy

K.
