Raven
I am considering coming to LOS over the holiddays. Usual places - Bangkok, Pattaya and possibly Phuket. Will the hotels be full? I have heard from a couple in the tourist industry that this will be a down year due to the Bali incident and numerous embassy warnings to avoid all of SE Asia, including Thailand. Others seem to think that Thailand will be busier than normal due to tourists avoiding Bali all together. Some have said that the number of western tourists will be down, but asian tourists will remain strong. Does anyone have a sense of how the holiday season is shaping up in Thailand? By the way, I hear that the tourist industry is TERRIBLE in Bali. Restaurants empty, hotels at 5% occupancy, and worries about laying off 300,000 in the industry. Thailand should take note of this. Torneyboy
Hi, I am in the travel industry and i can tell you offices in my franchise network are putting staff off and reduced hours for the others. my office was down 45% for October and thats after the huge drop after 9/11. I think many, that is that dont have some cash for backup will be out of bussiness before the end of january. Aussies are just not going anywhere at the moment. Our country has very strong warnings out for thailand not just Phuket. a big worry for us!
