  1. Yep, it's got more close since the debate. Now we have a debate plus for Romney which might be a little bit lessened by the positive job report which came just in time. The next two debates seem to be really important, but now Obama has to deliver instead of Romney.
  2. The difference between conservative and liberal media is, that the liberal media immediately agreed that Obama's performance was poor. While the conservative media flatly denies facts which don't fit into their perception of reality: Conservatives: Jobs data are phoney By: Kevin Robillard October 5, 2012 09:51 AM EDT The release Friday of unexpectedly positive jobs numbers immediately touched off a conspiracy theory among conservatives, who suggested the data was being manipulated to benefit President Barack Obama’s reelection. “Chicago style politics is at work here,†Florida GOP Rep. Allen West wrote on his Facebook page. “Somehow by manipulation of data we are all of a sudden below 8 percent unemployment, a month from the Presidential election. This is Orwellian to say the least and representative of Saul Alinsky tactics from the book ‘Rules for Radicals’- a must read for all who want to know how the left strategize.†http://www.politico....2070.html?hp=l3
  3. Hehe, did you meet the writer while walking around in the area?
  4. Germany media, like the US media, say that Obama f@cked up seriously. I guess it came as a surprise to most of the audience. Or maybe the high expectations on the DEM side are sign of a DEM bubble, which always painted Romney as being incompetent in speaking in front of people (but course Romney supported this view with his convention speech). I guess Obama needs to take some additional training sessions.
  5. Nah, it's just a phobia of men in black suits on bicycles. Since he saw "Men in Black" it got worse.
  6. During civil service (instead of going to the army) I had to take care of old men (chronically ill or dying) at their homes and one highlight of the day for them was a glass of schnaps (hard liquor). My boss always said that it's good for blood flow. As always with this stuff: in low doses healthy, in high doses toxic... PS: I wasn't really suited for the job and when I returned to the nursery station I always needed Sherry or something like this.
  7. The parallel universe where Mitt leads all polls By: Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns October 1, 2012 04:27 AM EDT To talk with any working Republican political operative these days is to hear the same tale of woe: a grim accounting of the past few weeks, a dash of gallows humor and a measure of hope that President Obama is still beatable. Never in question is that Mitt Romney is trailing — the private surveys these strategists see for their down-ballot clients make that clear. The only question is by how much. But hanging up the phone or clicking out of e-mail is to find a parallel universe on the right. On TV, talk radio and especially the Internet is a place where the swing-state polls that show Romney losing are not just inaccurate but part of an intentional plot by the heretofore unknown media-pollster axis to depress Republican voters. In this other world, Romney not only isn’t losing — he’s on the verge of a convincing victory. “I believe if the election were held today, Romney would win by 4 or 5 points,†trumpeted Dick Morris on Fox News last week, predicting a win for the GOP ticket in Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Nevada and Pennsylvania. In public polls right now, Romney is losing in each of those states. But, Morris said, that’s because the data are all wrong. .... Politico
  8. I just had a look at Fox News' website. I understand why research found out the Fexnews audience is much less informed than the average. If you look at the politics section all major headlines quote the GOP camp and of course are all anti the current government. Which of course means the Foxnews audience must think that the GOP has the upper hand all matters politics, while Obama and the White House are just screwing up everything. And that explains why the right had to develop the idea that all polls are screwed: the polls show a very different reality: Obama still has strong support among the majority of the electorate. Otherwise even the Fox audience (at least two or three of them) might get the idea, that they are misinformed about US politics and the election. On the other side, Huffington Post has a much easier job producing a positive image of Obama and the election campaign and attacking Romney and co, since the polls go in their direction. But of course HuffPost is a much lesser force in the US media since it only exist online and neither doesn't influence the Dem politics like Foxnews tv/radio personalities do.
  9. Hitler might have done it on the USSR. As Flash said, he went totally crazy in the end. And Hitler saw the Russians as 'subhuman beings', while he saw the Brits in a way close to the Germans... And I think the Japanese would have dropped the bomb on the Chinese, just have a look at the Nanjing Massacre (which Japan still denies).
  10. Don't you think that the current situation is slightly different compared to spring 1945?
  11. France has a nuclear-powered carrier which sometimes is even operable.
  12. No, Unit, they won't send the carrier to Tibet.
  13. I guess the Chinese know that. But that's not the point. It seems that, if they decide for something they will but millions, if not billions into a project as well as much manpower and time needed - like the USA in the 1950s and 1960s. There was recent a comparison between the number of aerospace engineers in the USA and China graduating each year. In the USA it was like 400 (and numbers going down) and in China like 5000 (and thousands more who applied for it). I can't find the source, but here is a similar comparison: In my opinion no country can afford to underestimate the speed of development in China...
  14. Houses in Japan are not being remodeled, they are being replaced. Anyway, back to the USA.
  15. Ten years is nothing. A major difference between Western democracies and the Chinese Communist Party is that the Chinese government has long term plans which span decades, while in the US and Europe they mostly plan just until the next election. I remember CNN saying in 1999 (while sitting in a hotel room in Hong Kong) that China needs 20 years for to have an own car industry. Meanwhile China hasn't not only their own cars, but high speed trains and airplanes and they are preparing to land on the Moon. Saying that the current carrier is not functional is only for to appease the Western audience. Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines et al. will clearly know what the development of the carrier means and I guess they are extremely concerned (as the USA are as well behind closed doors). By the way the USA have increased military in the area in past years considerably. The "Great Game" for the leadership in Asia is on again. The struggle in the Middle East might be soon the smaller problem for the USA and the rest of the Western world and its allies. That's one reason while the USA and its allies should clean up the mess in the area soon (which ends and starts of course with Israel).
  16. I had a 260 square feet/ 24 square meter apartment in Tokyo. It was the biggest in the apartment house. In this size you'll need a real intelligent design. My bathroom for example looked like being formed out of one piece of plastic (in included even a japanese style bathtub for to sit in). It was very easy to clean with the shower head. The apartment also had build in closets where I put my Futon during the day and all the other stuff.
  17. I only follow the meta polls. Those single polls concentrating on small group of voters don't have much value IMHO. They just show how desperate the news and politics websites are for information. Like they compared the number of twitter tweet per minute during the conventions. It's pseudo information without much. Next poll: waiters at McDonalds versus waiters at Burger King versus Pizza Hut.
  18. That's a right wing source. It follows a new complaint by the conservatives that not only the media are biased, but the polls as well. My guess is that the voter ID law might give states like Florida to the GOP, since thousands of Latinos might not have proper IDs to vote.
  19. Hey BT that's pure speculation. With Romney the Mormons will arrive at the center of power for the first time. They will do anything to support Romney.
  20. I think too the race is completely open. Even though most polls show Obama ahead, it's mostly within the margin of error. To make it worse for Obama the new voter ID laws in swing states like Florida might keep thousands of Dems voters away from the voting booth. If Romney weren't so extremely bad, the GOP would be a clear winner by now. But on the other hand the selection of Romney is a clear sign in how bad shape the GOP currently is.
  21. I have never heard of the this so 'German' proverb... Nevertheless it might be correct.

  23. And in Germany pensions usually don't evaporate, if a company goes bankrupt like in the USA. Anyway, I wonder who want to live in USA at the moment (except the Americans and the really poor). The USA have been the land of dreams for generations of Europeans. I guess this is mostly over now. BTW, misuse of social security is a problem, but a minor one in Germany, since the recipients of social security are being checked frequently. Freeloading has become much harder in the past years.
  24. Yep, that was a cool move. Too bad that Mekong did the opposite of playing dead after he learnt of his demise.
  25. Some US media are declaring that Romney just lost the election: Today, Mitt Romney Lost the Election By Josh Barro Sep 18, 2012 12:02 AM GMT+0200 You can mark my prediction now: A secret recording from a closed-door Mitt Romneyfundraiser, released today by David Corn at Mother Jones, has killed Mitt Romney's campaign for president. On the tape, Romney explains that his electoral strategy involves writing off nearly half the country as unmoveable Obama voters. As Romney explains, 47 percent of Americans "believe that they are victims." He laments: "I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives." So what's the upshot? "My job is not to worry about those people," he says. He also notes, describing President Obama's base, "These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax." This is an utter disaster for Romney. .... http://www.bloomberg...e-election.html
